Registering with a GP in Dublin is straightforward once you know the process. Whether you hold a full medical card (GMS), a Doctor Visit Card (DVC), or are paying privately, this guide explains exactly what you need to do.

Clarius Health operates three GP clinics in Dublin — in Camden Street (Dublin 2), Crumlin (Dublin 12), and Cabra (Dublin 7) — and we accept new patients across all three sites.

Who Can Register with a GP in Dublin?

Anyone living in the Republic of Ireland can register with a GP. There are three main patient categories:

GMS patients hold a full medical card issued by the HSE. GP visits, most prescriptions, and many referrals are free. Your GP is paid a monthly capitation fee by the PCRS (Primary Care Reimbursement Service) on your behalf.

DVC patients hold a Doctor Visit Card. GP consultations are free, but prescriptions must be paid for. DVC cards are means-tested and available to those who do not qualify for a full medical card.

Private patients pay for each GP visit. Fees at Clarius Health are €70 per consultation in Camden and Crumlin, and €60 in Cabra. Prescription and referral fees may apply separately.

How to Register with Clarius Health

Step 1: Choose your clinic. Select the Clarius Health clinic closest to your home or workplace — Camden Street (Dublin 2), Crumlin Road (Dublin 12), or Cabra Road (Dublin 7).

Step 2: Contact us. Call or email the clinic directly, or use the online booking system on our website at clarius.ie.

Step 3: Complete a registration form. New patients complete a short registration form with their personal details, date of birth, and PPS number (required for GMS and DVC registration).

Step 4: For GMS or DVC patients — transfer your card. If you already have a medical card or DVC assigned to another GP, you will need to request a transfer through the HSE. This can be done online at mymedicards.ie or by contacting the HSE directly. Once your card is transferred, Clarius Health becomes your registered GP practice.

Step 5: Book your first appointment. Once registered, you can book online, by phone, or in person.

What Documents Do You Need?

For GMS registration: your medical card (or card number), PPS number, and photo ID.

For DVC registration: your DVC card, PPS number, and proof of address.

For private registration: no documents required — simply book an appointment.

Can I Register with a GP Outside My Area?

Yes. For private patients, there is no restriction on which GP you see. For GMS and DVC patients, the HSE generally requires you to register with a GP reasonably local to your home address, but this is assessed case by case.

How Long Does Registration Take?

Private patients can typically be seen same-day or within a day or two of contacting us. GMS and DVC transfers can take a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the HSE processing time, but you can often be seen on a private basis while the transfer is processing.
